Teachers hold “the code” to learning
As celebrations and innovations continue in this, the 76th year of the Haitian-American Institute, plans are well underway to conduct three Teacher of the Session contests this year–in April, July, and October–to honor and recognize our dedicated and amazing teachers!
To compete for Teacher of the Session, a teacher must be assigned at least five regular classes Monday through Thursday, for a total of 20 hours weekly.
Other factors will be considered, such as punctuality, attendance, overall performance and classroom management. As all teachers know, the core of their success as an educator is based on how well she/he presents the material–is it fun to learn? Are students organized in pairs and group work activities? How well are they supervised and how is error correction handled? What about the teacher’s rapport with the students?
The Academic Head, Mr. Kenel Joseph, will pay unannounced visits to the nominees’ classes to determine whether the above criteria are maintained in the classroom. He will observe and grade the teacher accordingly. The winner will get a Teacher of the Session certificate and will also be acknowledged on the HAI campus, the HAI website and Facebook page.
Last but not least, each session winner will automatically be entered in the Teacher of the Year contest. The lucky winner of the Teacher of the Year contest will win an all expenses paid trip to attend 2019 TESOL Conference being held in Washington, DC.
This is to say, thank you, TEACHERS, for all you do. Good luck!!!
