Thanks to a serendipitous tip from a Haitian employee in a Florida grocery store, HAI President Patricia Convery now has the ball rolling toward an exciting new program that will connect students learning English at the HAI with possible careers in the hospitality industry.
“I followed up on that tip and contacted Mr. Achal Goswami, Executive Director, Chief Operating Officer, Frenchman’s Creek Beach and Country Club, who invited me to meet with him.”
Not only did Mrs. Convery meet with Mr. Goswami, who travels the world searching for possible candidates who are seeking careers in the hotel hospitality industry, he wanted to come to Haiti but had no contact until recently!
During her visit with Mr. Goswami at Frenchman’s Creek in Florida, Mrs. Convery witnessed first hand the myriad of nationalities working harmoniously together.
“It was heart warming,” said Mrs. Convery. “I could see an opportunity for our Haitian students to align with a new program being offered in our April session ~ ‘Everyday English for Hospitality Professionals’ ~ in order to assist interested students wishing to pursue a career in this lucrative industry. The key word here is career.”
On 27 January 2017, Mr. Goswami honored us with his first visit to Haiti and the Haitian-American Institute. With over 80 attendees, Mr. Goswami gave a lively, informative presentation followed with a question/answer segment.
The partnership established between the HAI and Frenchman’s Creek will allow hospitality students in Haiti to advance their careers at a time when this sector needs qualified men and women.
