IN LOVING MEMORY 12 JANUARY 2010
I wish to think that these countless points of light represent the souls of our dearly departed whose lives were discontinued on earth following the devastating earthquake that struck Haiti a decade ago. On January 11th my family and I returned to the States thereby narrowly escaping what was to happen the following day. Because of this, I dedicated myself to work via phone to give almost daily instructions to restore the functioning of the HAI with the selfless help of Eng. Fritz Benjamin and many others. I received the “green light” to return home on April 18th and reopened the Institute on May 3rd.
And now, ten years later, I am again waiting for a “green light” to come home following another kind of earthquake ~ a human one. The political situation and all contributing factors have managed to erase the humanitarian spirit that was born following the 2010 tragedy and replace it with a demoralizing state of mind that has buried the hopes, dreams, plans and ideas of Haitians for the past ten years.
Inspired by this sobering fact, I find sole comfort in believing the departed souls we pray for today are enjoying the peace, love and harmony they were unable to experience on earth.
God bless us, every one.
